This trucker decided to pull over by cutting through an on-ramp, causing the car behind him to be hit by another truck. Don't be this guy.

there were 5 cars smashed into each other one after the other on my commute home yesterday. this caused 2 lanes to be closed down with flares at a 3 highway split which is 5 lanes wide and a mess without an accident.
in a lane that was still flowing I saw multiple people stop to try and squirm into the traffic for the other lanes.
I cringed every time.
there's 40+ mph traffic in you're lane you can't just STOP

This is why I always move out of the right lane near on-ramps, if possible. Don't get me wrong, it's not the fault of the guy in the car, but if he had been looking behind him he might have been able to see that other truck coming up fast and he could have moved over to the shoulder behind the Con-Way truck... I always try to look behind me if I anticipate having to brake hard. Easier said than done.

Yeah, it's pretty scary. And just imagine if the Con-Way truck was still in front of him at the time. That could have easily been fatal.

What that trucker did is known as a "Gore point violation" in Arizona. 3 points on your license for doing it.

I hate to blame the victim here, but the dude in the car had every opportunity to get out of that jam before the dashcam truck rear ended him. The offending Conway truck was 95% clear of the car's lane when it was struck. If the car driver maneuvers quickly around the Conway, he's free and clear. Instead, no doubt intimidated by the task of having to scoot around the truck in front of him, he opts to extend his near-stop on a busy highway, and makes himself a target.

The driver at the end, motioning for the truck to stop.....

He releases the brakes when he is free of the truck. He shouldn't have to "quickly maneuver" around the Conway truck. He would have to get very close to the Conway truck and peg the throttle to even have a hope.

The dude towing the trailer seems to understand the situation, passes but stays as far over as he can. Sadly there was room for the drive of the Escape to make his escape...

He releases the brakes too late to save himself from getting rear ended. And when he releases, he fails to accelerate. He seems committed to staying in trail with the Conway until it is fully out of his lane (I suspect, because he didn't check for closing traffic behind him).
It's an issue of managed risk. Do you shade left, put your left tires on the lane line, and get the hell around the idiot in the Conway truck? Or do you wait patiently at a near dead-stop for him to completely clear the lane while traffic barrels down behind you? I know what choice I make in that situation.
